Do you feel the urge to cover up the loose, flabby skin on your upper arms? This is a common issue with many individuals, but you’re in the right place. Body procedures are one of our primary services.
Get Ready to Love Your Arms
Arms that lack definition and sag can have a negative impact on your self-image and confidence—not to mention they can seriously limit what you feel comfortable wearing. Dr. G is a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in body contouring procedures, performing one of the best arm lift procedures in the San Diego and La Jolla area.
What Can an Arm Lift Do?
- Reduces sagging skin on the upper arms
- Removes fat pockets on the upper arms
- Firms and smooths out the supportive tissue
- Contours the upper arms
- Enhances self-image and confidence
Where Do Flabby Arms Come From?
Sagging, flabby skin on the upper arms (often referred to as “bat wings”) typically develops from age, weight fluctuation, or genetics. This area can be particularly difficult to improve with diet and exercise, especially if it occurs due to genetics.
The Arm Lift Procedure
An arm lift is performed with the patient under general anesthesia, so you will need to arrange for someone to drive you home. Dr. G will carefully make an incision under the arm. This incision will reach from the elbow to the armpit, and will be barely noticeable once fully healed. From this incision, excess skin and fat will be excised, and the remaining skin will be tightened. Once complete, the incision will be sutured. After this, your arms may be wrapped in compression garments, and drains may also be placed to help collect fluid. An arm lift takes 2-4 hours.
Recovery and Results
Recovery time after an arm lift is 1-2 weeks, with peak swelling at 2-3 days. This swelling will subside more and more over the course of the two weeks following surgery. During recovery, you may also have mild discomfort and bruising. For the best arm lift recovery, be sure to keep your incisions covered and clean, and allow the compression garments to do their work. Your arm lift results will look better and better each day, and will be finalized within 2-4 months. Your scar will look very pink at first, but will fade more and more with each passing week. Do your best to keep the scar out of direct sunlight to avoid discoloration.
