If you’re bothered by loose neck skin (including a “turkey wattle”), lax jowls, a double chin, or neck bands, Dr. G’s neck lift procedure can address these concerns.
Rejuvenation & Balance for the Neck
When the neck begins to show signs of aging, it can make you appear older or heavier than you actually are. A neck lift achieves a smoother, slimmer, more attractive appearance to the neck, jawline, and profile.
Key Benefits of a Neck Lift
- Definition for the neck, chin, and jawline
- Excess fat is removed from beneath the chin
- Sagging or loose neck skin is firmed
- Neck bands are reduced in appearance
- Jowls are more sculpted
- Improvement of the overall appearance of the neck area
Surgery Details for a Neck Lift
Depending upon the complexity and extent of the neck lift and whether or not it is being done in combination with a facelift, Dr. G performs the neck lift procedure with the patient under local anesthesia and light sedation, or under general anesthesia. He will carefully create incisions beneath the chin and behind the ear. Dr. G will separate the skin from the muscle and underlying fat, and will then gently remove the fat. In more complex neck lift procedures, a platysmaplasty may also be performed. In this procedure, the deeper structures of the neck such as the platysma muscle, deep fat, glands, and other structures under the platysma muscle may also be addressed to improve the contour of the jawline and neck. The platysma muscle is then re-constituted and tightened in the front of the neck. This results in a slimmer neck and jawline. If needed, he will also remove excess skin. Once everything has been completed, he will close the incisions. The treated area will be dressed in surgical bandages for a few days following the surgery. The entire procedure takes anywhere between 2-5 hours, depending upon its extent or associated procedures like facelift.
Recovery and Results
The recovery period for a neck lift, if being performed on its own, is approximately two weeks. During this time—especially in the first few days—you will have some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Be sure to keep your head elevated, even while lying down, and you will need to refrain from long, hot showers until Dr. G advises.
Results from your neck lift will be final once the swelling and bruising have subsided, which is typically four months. However, your neck will continue to look better and better every week following your surgery. Results last 10-15 years.
