Juvéderm’s Magic Ingredient

Juvéderm’s active ingredient is hyaluronic acid, which is how it makes the skin so plump, hydrated, firm, and youthful-looking. Hyaluronic acid is a moisture-binding molecule that is naturally within the body, but around the age of 30 we begin to start losing this substance. That’s why it’s so effective when it is replaced. When hyaluronic acid is injected into our tissue, it binds itself to the water molecules that are inside the skin. This results in more volume and lift.

General background

Dr. G: Your Ideal Provider for Injections

When it comes to your face, you can’t afford to choose a provider who may make mistakes. Dr. G has many advantages as an injector over everyday med spas or injectors without core aesthetic knowledge and training. He is a board-certified plastic surgeon who has studied anatomy, completed an additional eight years of training after medical school to learn his specialty, and performs facelifts and other facial rejuvenation surgery regularly. He uses a cannula instead of a needle, which has many benefits (including less bruising).

Non-invasive and minimally invasive facial treatments are one of his primary services at his practice, and he has been featured in New Beauty magazine as an ExpertInjector™ due to his safe, effective injectable techniques. In addition, Dr. G is a Key Opinion Leader for dermal filler vendors, and faculty member of PALETTE®—a national workshop faculty that teaches advanced injection methods to other surgeons and medical professionals.

Non-surgical options such as injectables allow me to offer a broader spectrum of treatment to my patients. A lot of people don’t want or don’t need surgery, so if I can use non-surgical options to meet their goal, I think it’s a win-win situation.

What’s the difference between Juvéderm and Restylane?

What’s the difference between Juvéderm and Restylane?

This is a very common question because Juvéderm and Restylane are both very popular and effective dermal fillers that are hyaluronic acid based. The main difference between them is their textures. Restylane is made of a more granular substance, while Juvéderm is smoother. This gives Juvéderm the advantage when treating more delicate lines and wrinkles in tight areas of the face—but on the other hand, it gives Restylane the advantage for things like contouring and adding more volume. As far as results, Juvéderm has a quicker onset than Restylane. It provides instant results, while Restylane can take 1-2 days. Knowing which hyaluronic acid filler is best for you will come down to personal preference. Dr. G will help determine the best filler for your personal aesthetic goals.

Do Juvéderm injections hurt?

Juvéderm is injected using a fine needle or a cannula, so if you have ever gotten a shot, you’ll have an idea of what it will feel like. However, Juvéderm contains lidocaine (an anesthetic) to keep patients more comfortable during the injections. We can also numb your skin before treatment if you prefer. Most patients find injections very tolerable.

What side effects should I expect?

The most common side effects from Juvéderm injections are redness, bruising, swelling, itching, and/or firmness in the treated areas. Each of these side effects are temporary. If you’re worried about them, please bring this up with Dr. G during your consultation.
