Microneedling is a highly popular skin treatment that works by creating micro-injuries to the skin with tiny needles. Not only does it give you healthier skin; it also triggers brand-new collagen growth.
How Microneedling Works
Microneedling rejuvenates the skin from the inside out. A device that contains micro-needles moves across the skin, creating countless tiny, invisible punctures to the skin. These punctures—micro injuries—induce your body’s natural healing factors: the injury repair process.
The injury repair process does quite a few things. It signals your body’s immune system to disinfect the injuries, remove debris, boost blood flow, and start to build brand-new tissue. It also focuses on the wound, re-building new granulation cells, collagen, elastin, and blood vessels. Finally, it replaces the injury with new dermal tissues and blood vessels. All of this provides “new” skin that is thicker, firmer, and healthier.
Another benefit of microneedling is that it helps your skincare products to do their job even better because they can be applied directly to the skin while microneedling, allowing them to reach more deeply into your skin after the micro-needles have penetrated it. In many instances, Dr. G will incorporate topical nanofat (which is derived from your own fat tissues and contains stem cells and growth factors) as a topical treatment during microneedling.
