Radiant, Glowing Skin with Microneedling

Microneedling effectively enhances skin texture, improves the appearance of wrinkles, reduces scars, helps with acne, lightens hyperpigmentation, and kickstarts your body’s own collagen production. Those who regularly undergo this treatment see a healthy, lit-from-within radiance.

How Microneedling Works

Microneedling rejuvenates the skin from the inside out. A device that contains micro-needles moves across the skin, creating countless tiny, invisible punctures to the skin. These punctures—micro injuries—induce your body’s natural healing factors: the injury repair process.

The injury repair process does quite a few things. It signals your body’s immune system to disinfect the injuries, remove debris, boost blood flow, and start to build brand-new tissue. It also focuses on the wound, re-building new granulation cells, collagen, elastin, and blood vessels. Finally, it replaces the injury with new dermal tissues and blood vessels. All of this provides “new” skin that is thicker, firmer, and healthier.

Another benefit of microneedling is that it helps your skincare products to do their job even better because they can be applied directly to the skin while microneedling, allowing them to reach more deeply into your skin after the micro-needles have penetrated it. In many instances, Dr. G will incorporate topical nanofat (which is derived from your own fat tissues and contains stem cells and growth factors) as a topical treatment during microneedling.

What to Expect During Treatment

To avoid skin aggravation, it’s best to avoid sun exposure for 24 hours before a microneedling appointment. Please arrive to your appointment with no makeup and clean skin. Numbing cream will be applied to your skin before treatment. Once you’re skin is numbed, the microneedling device will pass over your skin, creating tiny punctures.

There may be a small amount of bleeding from the wounds, but it is very minimal and will stop by the time you leave our office.

The actual microneedling takes approximately 20 minutes, and once it has been completed, we will apply a cooling mask to the treated area. Topical products such as ZO® post-operative topical serum may be applied as well.

For the best results, we recommend multiple microneedling sessions. A series of 3-6 sessions (scheduled 4-6 weeks apart) is typical for most patients, but for those with more severe skin conditions, 6-8 treatments may be required.

Recovery

Although you won’t be in any pain or have physical restrictions following your microneedling treatment, your face will be red and may be swollen or feel like you have a sunburn for 1-2 days, depending on your specific skin type and sensitivity. During the first couple of days, we recommend avoiding anything heat-based (such as saunas, hot tubs, hot showers, hot yoga, etc.), exercising, direct sunlight, exfoliating, and alcohol-based beauty products. Apply a healing serum, such as ZO® Firming Serum, to keep your skin hydrated.

Results

On the third day following your microneedling appointment, you will have a lovely, lit-from-within glow. You will see your skin looking better and better over 2-4 weeks, with final results from the new collagen at six months.
